Alan Hovhaness: Symphony No. 36 for Flute & Orchestra, Op. 312 (1978)

The American composer, Alan Hovhaness (1911-2000) was extremely prolific with more than 500 compositions to his credit. He wrote some 67 numbered symphonies with commercial recordings of over 30. His Symphony No. 36 has never been commercially recorded.

This performance presents the world premiere with flute soloist, Jean-Pierre Rampal and the National Symphony Orchestra of Washington, D.C. conducted by Mstislav Rostropovich from January 16. 1979.
