The Harvard Symphonic Wind Ensemble plays Hovhaness, Tower Music
Allen Hovhaness, Tower Music, Op. 129, performed by the Harvard Symphonic Wind Ensemble on March 11, 1966, directed by James Walker, in Sanders Theater. The principal trumpet was John Walter Hill, a now-retired musicology professor and author of articles and books, including Baroque Music (New York: W. W. Norton, 2005). The principal clarinet was John Adams, who has become a celebrated Minimalist composer. The conductor, James Walker, has also composed an impressive body of musical works. Unfortunately, the name of the excellent principal oboist has been lost from immediate memory. Can anyone supply his/her name?
